Current Head: Bentxamì Puntmasleu
Deputies: Lüc da Schir
Function: To maintain and record Talossan law.

La Scriuerïă d'Abbavilla (in English, the Scribery of Abbavilla), one of five statutory offices of the Royal Civil Service, is charged with maintaining and recording Talossa's Organic Law and statutes, and changes thereto. The Scribery also creates and maintains the typographic standards to be used in all publications made by the King, his household, or his Government.

The Scribery is headed by el Grefieir d'Abbavilla (in English, the Scribe of Abbavilla), appointed by the Attorney-General. The Scribe may also appoint one or more deputies, which is usually done either to tackle a specific project or as cover for an inactive Scribe. Often, in this latter case, the deputy will be appointed directly by the Attorney-General, will effectively serve as Acting Scribe, and may have to get Talossa's body of laws up to date with recent unScribed bills.

History of the Scribery

The cover of the first Anuntziâ dels Legeux from September 1987 to October 1996

Created by a Prime Dictate issued on 4 July 2002 by Seneschal Gödafrïeu Válcadác'h, the Scribery assumed responsibility from the Ministry of Justice for the authoritative recording, care, and maintenance of the Kingdom's constitution 1997 Organic Law.

The post of Scribe was first held by Davïu Foctéir, who resigned the position on 9 October 2002, at which time the title and duties were taken up on a temporary basis by Prime Minister Válcadác'h. Some two months later, on 13 December 2002, the post was given to Sir Chirisch Cavéir, and its duties in service of the country were formalized and expanded.

On Independence Day 2003, the fourth Scribe, Martì-Paìr Furxhéir, was appointed, and jointly served as Secretary of State until the Republic of Talossa broke away. Thereafter, the next Secretary of State, Tomás Gariçéir, acted as Scribe until the positions were split again with the appointment of Marc Moisan in late 2004 (and of Ben Madison as Secretary of State, Gariçéir being busy on parental leave). Under Moisan's guidance, the Scribery began to re-compile and categorise the library of Talossan statutory law, and to act as the custodian thereto.

Moisan left the Kingdom in 2005 but still continued for a time to assist his successor, Ma la Mha, in the performance of his duties. After restoring public access to the Organic Law (which had unfortunately been lost owing to the events of 2004 that affected the Kingdom's Web presence), la Mha undertook the creation of a complete online set of statutes for the Kingdom. Authorized Talossans (the Justices of the Uppermost Cort, the Secretary of State, the Attorney-General, and Members of the Royal Talossan Bar) were also provided access to an online Law Library, created by the Scribery, which allows for easier research into the acts of Talossan law. The creation of these online legal repositories was accompanied by the creation of an entirely new Website for the Kingdom of Talossa. The maintenance, upkeep, and care of this site became the tacit responsibility of the Scribery, which enlisted the assistance ofthe members of the Talossan Web Designers Guild, who took their direction from the Scribe.

When la Mha became Seneschal in 2007, Olaf Brainerd was appointed to serve as Grefieir d'Abbavilla. He was succeeded by the eighth Scribe, Dréu Gavárþic'h in late 2009, then by the ninth Scribe Martì Prevuost, in mid-2011.

For non-Talossan reasons, Prevuost was forced to abandon the post in early 2012 after successfully beginning a program of adding "Scribe's Notes" to the statutes. He was succeeded by Vitxalmour Conductour, who served until 2 Apr 2014/XXXV and contributed much of the modern workings of the Scribery, including an extensive research into typos and inconsistencies.

Conductour retired in April 2014, though his initial replacement, Moritz Fernaodescu, was at the same time busy with extraTalossan affairs, and never acted upon the appointment; Alexandreu Davinescu deputised, with Munditenens Tresplet also providing Wiki editing expertise. M.T. Patritz da Biondeu was then appointed as Scribe on 4 Sept 2014/XXXV, retaining Tresplet as deputy until 11 Dec 2015/XXXVI. On the same day, he also announced the Scribery would begin to preserve debates regarding bills and offer paper copies of the El Lexhatx, bills, and debates for purchase.

Sir Txec dal Nordselvă replaced S:reu da Biondeu as Scribe when the latter renounced his citizenship in January 2016; Munditenens Tresplet was again brought in as deputy Scribe, in an acting capacity, for a single day in February 2017, when upon bringing Talossa's body of laws up to date with all outstanding legislation he immediately resigned, to be replaced by Magniloqueu Épiqeu da Lhiun.

Gödefrïeu Válcadác'h was re-appointed Scribe in July 2018, this time on a permanent basis, becoming the first person to serve in the post more than once, to be followed, upon his retirement in September of 2020, by Sir Txec dal Nordselvă, also in his second time in the role. During his tenure Sir Txec also briefly served simultaneously as Secretary of State and Burgermeister of Inland Revenue.

Breneir Tzaracomprada succeeded Dr. Txec dal Nordselvă, upon his retirement from the position, in November of 2022 until his election as Seneschal in April 2023/XLIV. His deputy Üc Tärfă subsequently took over, and completed a large and intensive maintenance project he had begun earlier in the year.

The current appointee, Bentxamì Puntmasleu, replaced Tärfă upon the latter falling inactive over the summer; Sir Lüc da Schir served as Acting Scribe over the final part of Tärfă's tenure.
