Performing arts
The Performing Arts of Talossa are varied in nature, with their traditions going (mythically) back to the days of Talossa's (mythical) Berber forebears, to whom Talossans credit the invention of just about everything good and noble and fun.
Talossans claim that Berbers invented opera, and that all opera around the world today descends from the Berber original. Talossa is proud to support not one but two Royal Opera companies. The first of these, performing lighter operatic fare, is the Royal Opera (RO). Its brother company, bringing the joy of music to audiences in Talossa's Antarctic territory, is the Royal Péngöpäts Heavy Opera Company (RPHOC).
Talossans also claim that the Berbers invented football, and that all forms of football (among which Talossans count chess) that are played around the world descend from the Berber original. Today, Talossan Football is the most pure form of the original.
Talossans further claim that Berbers invented opera and football at the same time, and maintain that these two performing art forms were originally one and the same. Keeping this tradition alive, the Royal Opera (RO) and Talossan Football League (TFL) partnership (the ROTFL) plans to hold annual events (TFL games with orchestral accompaniment by the RO), being full performances of authentic Berber Football, as true to the original as possible, with performances of a complete operatic act at each football intermission by the players.
The most famous Talossan opera is the tale of the loves and losses of Berber football and opera performers in medieval Spain, one of the initial refuges of the itinerant Berbers. This operatic saga (the Berber of Seville trilogy) is a series of short three-act operettas, all written in the Talossan language.
Talossans even claim that the ancient Berbers somehow invented race car driving. The fastest of the performing arts would be celebrated on Talossan soil by the annual Ice Flats 200, a planned race to be run (hopefully at least by a NASCAR junior circuit) on the frozen surface of Talossa's Antarctic territory.
Talossans claim that the invention of opera at the root of Talossa's performing arts heritage has resulted in the cultures of the world, as every performing art enjoyed worldwide descends from Berber opera. From Berber opera came grand opera and football of all kinds, and as recitative came into fashion, musical theater and later spoken drama and oration were developed. About the only performing art that Talossans do not wish to claim as originating from their mythical cultural ancestors is mime.
