The Progressive Alliance is a political party which succeeded the Talossan National Congress with the bulk of its membership, including Senator Þerxh Sant-Enogat, Baron Alexandreu Davinescu, Sir X. Pol Briga, Tric'hard Lenxheir, and Eovart Xhorxh. It was later joined by Françal I. Lux, Mximo Carbonel, Baroness Litz Cjantscheir, Beneditsch Ardpresteir, and Duke John Lupul.

The party's stated ideals include a desire to move forward with reforms, but without destroying the past. This approach helps explain a membership that includes ardent conservatives and fierce liberals, such as former Republican Party of Talossa leader Carbonel and former monarch Duke John. There is also a heavy emphasis on issues of transparency and good governance. The "Progs" also pride themselves on a culture of positivity and volunteerism, saying that Talossa shouldn't feel like a chore... it should be fun.

For the election to the 62nd Cosa, the party's 50-word statement was: "Reject negativity, embrace accountability, preserve institutions, and move forward with new ideas: repeal the government's secret control on immigration; remove red tape; fix up the website; and put a human face on the government. Promote the fun stuff that's happening... and let the world know about our amazing little nation!"

Beliefs and Platform

The Progressive Alliance has focused on a broad spectrum of issues, including insisting on government transparency, working on good government reforms to provide services, putting a human face on Talossa, prioritizing immigration reform, fixing broken parts of the national webspace, and stealing the king's money for redistribution to the people. These issues were clumsily forced into alliteration: illumination, infrastructure, immigration, initiative, and illegality.

History

A relatively young party, the Progressive Alliance rose swiftly from a handful of seats to the largest party in the Ziu. Beginning as a splinter from the disintegrating TNC, it consolidated most of their support.

59th Cosa

The original trendsetting Progressive logo, featuring two hands of different colors uniting together.

The party began during the chaos of the 59th Cosa. During this term, Breneir Tzaracomprada, influential party founder of the governing Talossan National Congress, lost an internal vote over the future of the party. Subsequently, he departed the TNC and founded the rival Open Society by himself, and began campaigning against his former party. This pressure campaign soon led to the resignation of Seneschal Bråneu Excelsio. Excelsio was succeeded by þerxh Sant-Enogat, but the discord and the absence of Deputy Leader Alexandreu Davinescu (due to two deaths in his family) led to the collapse of the party.

By the end of the term, the TNC had splintered into the Open Society, led by Tzaracomprada, COFFEE, led by Excelsio, and the Progressive Alliance, led by Sant-Enogat. It was unclear which party would establish itself as the successor to the TNC, but Tzaracomprada's Open Society seemed to have the advantage of the same founder and a significant head start on its disoriented rivals.

60th Cosa

With virtually no campaigning and barely any support, the Progressive Alliance did poorly in the election for the 60th Cosa. The Progs got only six votes for 7.5% of the total vote. The three TNC splinter parties together only received 32.5%, significantly worse than the previous year's 50%, as voters punished them for the confusion.

However, the term saw the party strengthen considerably, as former TNC members migrated to its ranks and the party solidified its constitution and beliefs. This growth was strengthened as COFFEE joined an alliance with the governing Free Democrats and the Open Society closed.

Beginning with the 61st Cosa, the new party hit its stride and saw significant success at the polls. Their 32% of the vote was a 400% improvement, and suddenly the tiny Progs were the official Opposition. The party's 50-word statement had emphasized a traditional yet democratic Kingdom, continuation of a bicameral legislature, and an emphasis on stronger transparency and immigration. Finally, they established clear branding with a new constitution, new forum, and new logo.

In the run up to the election, Baron Alexandreu Davinescu was elected as the new party leader and Seneschal candidate. The party proposed a broad array of policies, focusing in particular on issues of good government and transparency, and consciously opted to avoid any negative campaigning or personal attacks.

62nd Cosa

The Progressive Alliance, or Progs, emerged from their third election as the largest party in the Cosa, garnering 44% of the vote -- tantalizing close to a majority, but falling short. They also swept all the contested elections in the Senäts, with Davinescu winning in Maritiimi-Maxhestic, Beneditsch Ardpresteir winning in Maricopa, and Mximo Carbonel winning in Florencia.
