Proposed Rules for Politics

We will be implementing some rules to ensure that namespace articles are more free from political campaigning. Some of it is probably inevitable, but recent incidents have led to the need for some guidelines. These are some proposals that I think might be useful:

• Generally speaking, contemporaneous parties should be described in terms of concrete fact, rather than personal opinion. This is especially true during an election.
• Articles are not appropriate places for campaigning.

Perhaps we should establish a way to lock some pages or add a banner like they do on Wikipedia for events like major deaths, warning that the page may not be accurate. We maybe also should add that ant changes to certain pages be proposed on the talk page before live edits occur. Txec Regeu (talk) 12:44, 21 December 2025 (CST)

I think this is also a good idea. Just to correct a misconception, though: there's no First Covenant right to say whatever you want on TalossaWiki articles.--AD (talk) 13:36, 21 December 2025 (CST)

No law shall exist abridging the freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication except in case of public order or morals. Censorship shall never exist in Talossa; every person may freely speak, write and publish his sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the libelous abuse of that right.

The First Covenant disagrees. Moderators may perform their job as they see fit, but criminalizing freedom of expression is flagrantly inorganic. Autofil (talk) 13:47, 21 December 2025 (CST)

Sure, but this isn't your blog. TalossaWiki is property of the government of Talossa, provided as a service for citizens. People can't say whatever they want on articles -- if you were to insert into the Ziu page your opinion that you are the rightful emperor of Talossa, we wouldn't have to keep that just because it's right to say whatever you want. This has always been the case. Similarly, someone with edit rights on talossa.com doesn't get to say whatever they want there, either. --AD (talk) 16:49, 21 December 2025 (CST)

So, like I said, that would be handled by the moderation team, not by legislation -- if the government "owns" the wiki, then the government must abide by Organic Law in its actions regarding the wiki. Glad we're coming around to agreement. Autofil (talk) 18:57, 21 December 2025 (CST)

I'm not too clear on what you mean by "abide by the Organic Law" in this context, but just to repeat: the wiki isn't an open forum for free expression. It's an informational website provided by the government of Talossa which allows people to contribute, but it's not your blog where you can say whatever you want wherever you want. "Any material present on the Wiki ... falls under this defined authority" of the government, which is why the "About TalossaWiki" page states "TalossaWiki is a project of the Ministry of Stuff of the Kingdom of Talossa." This has almost never been a problem, and every government has been as hands-off as possible to respect the collaborative nature of the project... but I don't want you to labor under a false impression.

So anyway, do you have any suggestions about improvements to my proposed guidelines or ideas about additional rules to add to the manual of style?--AD (talk) 09:08, 23 December 2025 (CST)
