The Società per l'Ilesnaziun del Glheþ Naziunal, or Society for the Facilitation of the National Language, is an organization of those interested in promoting and managing the use of the Talossan language. SIGN is responsible for the in-progress new grammar of the Talossan language, Dals Recomendăs sür el Glheþ Talossan.
History
SIGN was founded in September 2017 by Iac Marscheir to provide an alternative to the seemingly moribund Comità per l'Útzil del Glheþ, the body that had traditionally overseen the study of the Talossan language ever since 1983. It subsequently attempted to hold its first congress on language reform without much success, and mostly lay dormant until 2019, when talks of an alternative body to CUG - which, by that point, had been inactive for at least two years - spun back up.
In early 2020, CUG was stripped of its Organic role as the official Talossan language organization by the ratification of the Still Into This Amendment and, consequently, of the 2017 revision to the Organic Law; in anticipation of this, Marcel Tafial was appointed Provisional Convenor of SIGN by then-Culture Minister Miestră Schivă, with the aim of producing a provisional unified standard for the Talossan language and getting SIGN organisationally off the ground. This was accomplished by the adoption of a package of bylaws (Rules of SIGN) in December 2019, and the publishing of the Recomendăs in September 2020.
Membership
Membership in SIGN is open to anyone. Before the adoption of rules in 2019, members were accepted without a vote; current rules stipulate a majority vote of the current members is needed to accept new members, except for members of CUG as of December 2019, who are accepted without a vote.
