Eiric S. Börnatfiglheu is a citizen of the Kingdom of Talossa. A three-time leader in the Republic of Talossa, he immigrated during Reunision and became a member of the ZRT, later co-founding the NPW.

The ESB Affair

On 7 Jan 2013/XXXIV, King John announced that Secretary of State Sir Iustì Canun had pointed out some anomalies in numerous accounts on Wittenberg, and that subsequent investigation had revealed "overwhelming and absolutely conclusive" evidence that Börnatfiglheu had faked the identities of seventeen different individuals who had immigrated or were currently immigrating, over the course of the past year.[1]

The various characters conceived by Börnatfiglheu engaged in often rancorous and heated public debates against Talossans of all political stripes, often insulting their supposedly fellow-citizens, and even debated one another for the entertainment and edification of the one man authoring their words.

Furthermore, by the time the fraud was exposed, all of the fictional characters who had been recognised as citizens had been (or were in the process of being) granted arms through the efforts of the College of Arms. These arms were revoked, although the wasted time of volunteers could not be recovered.

Even worse, eight of the alter egos of Börnatfiglheu had voted in the previous general election, all for one party (ZRT), and one was a Member of Cosa for that party, under the name Sariah Gipson. Importantly, however, no one in either the ZRT, Börnatfiglheu's old party, or the NPW, his current party, was aware of the deception — or happy about it.

After an ex parte order sought by the Chancery at the request of the King was issued by Puisne Justice Ián Tamorán, all of the eighteen Wittenberg accounts were suspended, and the "citizenships" of the seventeen fictional characters were ended. Börnatfiglheu subsequently confessed his guilt and renounced his citizenship, stating that "[i]t began with a idle wonder on my part as to whether I could get away with it and then extended to see just how far it could get pushed."[2]

Subsequent to the incident and his renouncing, Börnatfiglheu published an explanation and justification of his actions, calling them "a way of demonstrating various weaknesses in Talossa's legal framework"[3] and announcing his intentions to "return and stand trial."[4]
