The Progressive Alliance is a political party which succeeded the Talossan National Congress with the bulk of its membership, including Senator Þerxh Sant-Enogat, Baron Alexandreu Davinescu, Sir X. Pol Briga, Tric'hard Lenxheir, and Eovart Xhorxh.

History

A relatively young party, the Progressive Alliance rose within two terms to become the dominant party of the Opposition.

59th Cosa

Logo Prog 60th.jpg

The party began during the chaos of the 59th Cosa. During this term, Breneir Tzaracomprada, influential party founder of the governing Talossan National Congress, lost an internal vote over the future of the party. Subsequently, he departed the TNC and founded the rival Open Society by himself, and began campaigning against his former party. This pressure campaign soon led to the resignation of Seneschal Bråneu Excelsio. Excelsio was succeeded by þerxh Sant-Enogat, but the discord and the absence of Deputy Leader Alexandreu Davinescu (due to two deaths in his family) led to the collapse of the party.

By the end of the term, the TNC had splintered into the Open Society, led by Tzaracomprada, COFFEE, led by Excelsio, and the Progressive Alliance, led by Sant-Enogat. It was unclear which party would establish itself as the successor to the TNC, but Tzaracomprada's Open Society seemed to have the advantage of the same founder and a significant head start on its disoriented rivals.

60th Cosa

With virtually no campaigning and barely any support, the Progressive Alliance did poorly in the election for the 60th Cosa. The Progs got only six votes for 7.5% of the total vote. The three TNC splinter parties together only received 32.5%, significantly worse than the previous year's 50%, as voters punished them for the confusion.

However, the term saw the party strengthen considerably, as former TNC members migrated to its ranks and the party solidified its constitution and beliefs. This growth was strengthened as COFFEE joined an alliance with the governing Free Democrats and the Open Society closed.

61st Cosa

Beginning with the 61st Cosa, the new party hit its stride and saw significant success at the polls. Their 32% of the vote was a 400% improvement, and suddenly the tiny Progs were the official Opposition. The party's 50-word statement had emphasized a traditional yet democratic Kingdom, continuation of a bicameral legislature, and an emphasis on stronger transparency and immigration. Finally, they established clear branding with a new constitution, new forum, and new logo.
