Aftermath
The United Party won a plurality, though on its lowest ever share of the vote. Before the election, it was widely expected that a coalition with the TNP would have been sought; however, the two parties did not achieve enough seats on their own, and rather than relying on Wozniak's CALL, the UP elected to form a broad coalition with BFT. Robert Murphy was thus sworn in as Seneschal on 7 February 1988.
